Assistant Stores Manager

Oversee a highly regulated storage facility, inventory management, quality control, and dispatch of frozen cattle genetics. Bridge the gap between laboratory production, compliance authorities, order fulfilment and dispatch via courier network team.

Job Summary

The Assistant Store Manager will shadow the Store Manager becoming responsible for the operational excellence of a cryogenic storage facility. This includes managing liquid nitrogen infrastructure, overseeing strict livestock biosecurity protocols, maintaining meticulous software-driven stock tracking, and leading a team of dispatch operatives.

Key Responsibilities

Compliance, Quality, & Biosecurity

Inventory & Cryogenic Storage Management

  • Optimize stock levels of beef and dairy straws working closely with sales manager.
  • Manage liquid nitrogen levels across all storage vessels, ensuring uninterrupted cryogenic holding temperatures.
  • Oversee product labelling and systematic sorting of conventional and sexed inventory.
  • Conduct regular audits and reconcile stock tracking data to minimize aged or missing inventory.
  • Dispatch & Logistics Coordination.
  • Supervise and full fill accurate picking and packing of orders.
  • Coordinate safe transport and dispatch of product to the field.
  • Recruitment and training of dispatch team and couriers
  • Responsible for ordering consumables for re-sale and supplies for field technicians.
  • Enforce strict biosecurity and sanitation protocols within the stores and lab perimeter to prevent cross-contamination.
  • Ensure full compliance with government agricultural body and ISO standards.
  • Maintain safety standards regarding heavy lifting, chemical handling, and liquid nitrogen safety protocols (PPE compliance).

Team Leadership & Collaboration

  • Lead and schedule a dedicated team.
  • Lead and Schedule courier network.
  • Liaise with Dairy/Breeding Specialists and centre veterinarians to synchronize production outputs with current store capacities.

Job Requirements & Qualifications

  • Education: Degree or Diploma in Agricultural Science, Supply Chain Logistics, or related discipline.
  • Experience: 3+ years in inventory management
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency Microsoft suite with strong Excel skills
  • Industry Knowledge: Solid understanding of cattle breeding, artificial insemination (AI) and basic bovine genetics.
  • Physical Demands: Ability to safely handle heavy objects and comfortably work around sub-zero cryogenic environments.
