Agricultural Inspector

Job Description

Reporting to the Programme Manager, Occupational Health, the Senior Inspector Grade I manages an inspection team to ensure they contribute effectively and efficiently to the Authority’s Programme of Work (PoW) and delivery of the Authority’s strategic priorities in their assigned areas of responsibility. Initial assignment will be to the agriculture, forestry and fishing national sector team.

Key accountabilities for the role include but are not limited to the following:

■Provide leadership on and strategic management of assigned areas of responsibility by identifying and developing occupational health and safety initiatives in the agriculture, forestry and fishing sectors, where appropriate, and building team capacity, capability and skill sets.

■Demonstrate in-depth knowledge of the OSH issues and challenges in the Agriculture, Forestry and Fishing sectors and how prevention strategies such as Farm Safety Action Plans will be developed from current sectoral research and own knowledge & experience.

■Develop and implement policy and procedures relating to occupational health and safety hazards and risks under the portfolio.

■Provide technical input into national and EU legislative development including representing the Authority on external working parties.

■Develop Codes of Practice and guidelines to ensure compliance on relevant legislation.

■Develop and implement regulatory systems and processes relating to occupational health and safety hazards and risks under the portfolio.

■Develop and implement business plans to operationalise strategic and programme of work objectives.

■Develop operational systems and processes relating to occupational health and safety hazards and risks under the portfolio.

■Manage and scale a multi-disciplinary team of inspectors, ensuring the effective delivery of the PoW, covering policy, inspection and enforcement activities.

■Ensure continuous improvement of work processes by evaluating enforcement and policy activity, reviewing targets and results and assessing the added value of the various activities undertaken.

■Participate in the Management Group and contribute to the implementation of strategic, organisational, financial and operational goals and objectives.

■Represent, as assigned, the Authority at National, EU and International for a to ensure the Authority effectively contributes to EU strategies, roadmaps and other activities.

■Ensure team members are complying with the relevant processes and procedures identified in the inspectors manual, operational minutes, protocols and memorandums of understandings.

■Act as the primary interface between relevant internal and external stakeholders including our parent Department and other regulators and the Authority in relation to the assigned domain areas.

■Network with major stakeholders, build trusted working relationships and enlist stakeholder support in delivering a shared prevention strategy.
